AT NO TIME DID I THINK THAT “CITY SCOPE PRESENTS” WOULD BLOSSOM INTO A MULTI MEDIA WEB CHANNEL WITH A FULL RANGE OF VIDEOS FOR ENTERTAINMENT. I STARTED GIVING MUSIC LESSONS IN MY BASEMENT ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO. THE NAME OF THE MUSIC SCHOOL WAS “NEW LIFE MUSIC SCHOOL”. on SATURDAY AFTERNOONS I WOULD TEACH THE STUDENTS IN THE COMMUNITY PIANO, GUITAR AND BASS AT A BEGINNERS LEVEL. The students would bring their instruments to my house for lessons. I would explore the basics of theory and fundamentals of music . Eventually I noticed the methods I used are very unique and displayed a profound excellence and originality. I started using building blocks and tables to explain chord relationships. My indepth knowledge of arranging techniques open a hidden door to help get my message across.
After careful consideration I wanted to concentrate solely on teaching the bass guitar my full respective instrument. At that time I compiled the lessons, the building blocks and solo tables into my first book called the “Artistic Formula” which now is known as the "Creative Formula for the Bass Guitar". The name is derived from my vision of soloing to extract the appearance of tones shape into colors of musical expression. Such as an artist uses a canvas to paint he stories and express his imagination. My solo tables are made up of scales and arpeggios that can be used for today's modern music.
One afternoon while in worship service at Tiberia Baptist Church in Brooklyn, we recorded our first television program for Brooklyn public access channel (Bcat). When the videographer had set up her equipment and started to record the church service, I said to myself “hey maybe I can record my bass programs" if I took the time to learn about video editing. I asked her “how can I sign up to air my show on “Bcat” TV? After going to the production class I brought my first video camera . Learning digital video editing was a challenge to me so I put my best foot forward. My first “CITY SCOPE PRESENTS” program aired on “Bcat” television about five years ago. The response was so overwhelming that it launched a series of bass videos and church videos. The bass programs help so many bass enthusiast who had bass guitars laying around the house just collecting dust because the books they had were to complicated. The approach I like to use, directs the bass lesson to the student’s style of interest. I try to get them up and running within a couple of months after we take time to get the fundamentals under their belt.
The Bass Guitar Study Center is a name that represents a place in the artist heart. A place all of us have experience by the trials of studying music theory on a college level. The unlimited boundaries that are freed up by extra instructions. The private lesson we had to keep even if it meant going without lunch or buying a new pair of shoes. Its not a physical place, but an attitude of respect for being establish and the well learnt on the bass guitar.
I hope you enjoy this web site and the beauty of its vision.. Keep in touch with me through e-mails and frequent visits to the site, because “play what you write, and write what you hum” the sky is the limit. It is always my profound pleasure to work hard to bring you the best programs.
yours truly, Brian Ellis
